Thompson's Station Greenways, Phase 1
ANNOUNCEMENT!
TDOT Enhancement Grant approved for the town of Thompson's Station!!!
(Please know we are working hard on this project, but grants like this - using federal dollars - have strict regulations and processes. We anticipate this project taking approximately two years to complete.)
BACKGROUND
Thompson’s Station, TN is a charming community with much historic significance and natural beauty. Centrally located between the populated cities of Franklin and Spring Hill, Thompson’s Station has kept preservation of its land top priority, maintaining its original countryside. In addition to scenic landscape, Thompson’s Station boasts three public schools, the only Kroger Marketplace in TN, the state-of-the art Tennessee Equine Hospital, churches, and local businesses.
Highway 31, a two-lane country road, is the main link between Thompson’s Station, Spring Hill and Franklin. It is also the main access road to Interstate 65 and Interstate 840 that runs through Thompson’s Station. It is documented that over 20,000 cars travel on this section of Highway 31 per day. Despite this large volume of traffic, there is no alternative option for transportation.
LONG TERM PLAN
The proposed Thompson’s Station Greenways Trail system is a tri-fold effort to provide an alternate source of transportation, give access to historic and cultural experiences while providing an avenue to improve the health of the community.
This trail system is divided into 3 phases:
Phase 1
2.8 miles of asphalt trail connecting Tollgate Village to Thompson’s Station park.
Phase 2
1 mile of asphalt trail connecting Thompson’s Station Park to the northern edge of the Safe Routes

to School sidewalks on Heritage Park property.
Phase 3
Pedestrian Bridge over Highway 31 connecting Heritage Park sidewalks to the East Side of Spring Hill on Buckner Road.
Upon completion of the 3 phases, there will be a continual trail for multi-modal use throughout Thompson’s Station and Spring Hill. The entire trail will meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Guidelines. The pedestrian bridge over Highway 31 will allow 25,000+ residents that live on the East side of Highway 31 the opportunity of multi-modal transportation to schools, retail, grocery stores and restaurants.
